Sports Minister Solomon Dalung has said he will establish a Court of Arbitration for Sport to resolve sports disputes in the country, after some stakeholders questioned the new guidelines he released last week, ahead of June’s federations’ elections.
The new guidelines ban presidents and vice-presidents of international sports bodies from contesting the federations’ presidency elections.
Presidents of federations, who have served two consecutive terms, are also barred from vying for their federations’ top positions in June.
Long-serving presidents Habu Gumel of volleyball, Sanusi Ndanusa. tennis, Solomon Ogba (athletics), are among the major casualties of the guidelines.
Meanwhile, Dalung has said aggrieved persons could go to Court of Arbitration for Sports CAS, if they were not satisfied with the decision.
