The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has successfully prevented an attempt to smuggle suspected psychoactive substances into the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In a statement released yesterday, NCoS Public Relations Officer, Samson Duza, revealed that a man named Njimogu Ikedi tried to conceal what appeared to be cannabis sativa and other psychoactive drugs within his clothing during a visit to an inmate on Saturday.
The illicit items were discovered following a thorough search conducted by security personnel on duty.

Upon uncovering the contraband, the Controller of Corrections for the FCT Command, Christopher Jen, ordered the immediate arrest of the suspect.
Ikedi has since been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
Duza cautioned visitors against attempting to smuggle illegal substances into correctional facilities, emphasizing that the NCoS remains vigilant and committed to exposing such activities.
Additionally, Controller Jen called on the public and concerned Nigerians to continue supporting the NCoS in its mission to reform and rehabilitate offenders, which is vital for enhancing public safety.
