The Federal Government on Monday, re-arraigned Senator Isah Misau before Justice Ishaq Bello of High Court of the Federal Capital Territory for allegedly levelling accusations against the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. Ibrahim Idris.

Misau represents Bauchi Central Senatorial District in the Senate.

Initially he was docked on a 5-count charge in a suit marked FCT/HC/CR/345/2017. Specifically, Misau is being accused of making “injurious falsehood” against the IGP.

The FG maintained that the defendant had by his utterances, committed an offence contrary to Section 393(1) of the Penal Code.

However, the charge has been increased to seven.

Meanwhile, one of the two charges against Misau reads: “That you Isah Hamman Misau of Hamman Misau Residence, Turaki Street, Misau, Bauchi State on or about 26th August, 2017 at Abuja and other part of Nigeria, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, did make a false statement of fact to wit: that the Inspector-General of Police is scoring high marks by making almost half of the mobile commanders in the country, people of his Nupe extraction which said false statement of fact was published in the ThisDay Newspaper and The Punch Newspaper both dated 26th August, 2017, knowing that such false statement of fact would harm the reputation of Mr. Ibrahim Kpotun Idris (the serving Inspector-General of Police) and the Nigeria Police Force and you thereby committed an offence.

However, after taking plea, Justice Bello, allowed Misau to go home on previous bail conditions amounting to the tune of N5million. Meanwhile, the prosecution counsel, Dr. Alex Iziyon (SAN) informed the court that the FG would want to compel Channels Television to produce some of the evidence it would rely upon during the trial.

Iziyon said the prosecution would apply for a subpoena to be issued for the TV station to adduce video recordings of the interview session where Misau raised sundry allegations against the IGP.
