A passenger train on the Abuja–Kaduna rail line has derailed, sparking panic as some coaches went off track and passengers scrambled to safety.

The train reportedly departed Abuja at 9:45 this morning, with the incident occurring around Asham along the corridor.

As at the time of this report, no casualties have been confirmed, and officials of the Nigerian Railway Corporation are yet to issue an official statement.

The exact cause of the derailment is still unknown, but investigations are expected to commence immediately.

This marks the latest in a string of rail-related disruptions along the Abuja–Kaduna route, the most recent being a hot axle incident recorded near Rigasa Station just last week.
