The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved multiple landmark projects worth over ₦4 billion aimed at boosting agriculture, empowering youths, and improving infrastructure across the state.
Briefing journalists after the Council meeting in Dutse, the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Sagir Musa Ahmed, said the approvals reflect Governor Umar Namadi’s commitment to job creation, economic diversification, and sustainable development.
He announced that the Council approved the procurement of 200 customised 5-in-1 mini rice milling machines and equipment for the Limawa Multi-Skill Acquisition Centre at a total cost of ₦1.33 billion.
The machines, according to him, will be distributed to communities to support smallholder farmers, reduce post-harvest losses, and boost local rice production.
Similarly, the Multi-Skill Centre in Limawa, equipped with state-of-the-art fabrication, welding, and painting facilities, will serve as a training hub for young artisans, providing hands-on experience and opportunities for self-employment.
In another major decision, the Council approved the supply of 5,700 tissue-cultured date palm seedlings under the Jigawa State Date Palm Plantation Project valued at ₦405.5 million.

To further strengthen agricultural productivity, the Council also approved the procurement of 1,185 Hunter-100 motorcycles for agricultural extension workers across the 27 local government areas for ₦1.99 billion.
The motorcycles are expected to enhance field supervision, improve farmer outreach, and ensure timely agricultural advisory services.
In the area of infrastructure, the Council gave approval for the installation of 350 standalone solar-powered streetlights in selected semi-urban towns across the state.
The ₦338.4 million project is designed to improve public lighting, enhance security, and boost social and economic activities in local communities, particularly at night.
The approvals mark another milestone in Jigawa’s drive towards inclusive development and economic transformation.
Governor Namadi’s administration, according to officials, remains focused on empowering youths, supporting farmers, and providing sustainable infrastructure to improve the living standards of citizens and position Jigawa as a model of good governance in Nigeria.
