EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini reasserted the EU’s firm commitment to the two-state solutions, with Jerusalem as the shared capital of Israel and Palestine.
Mogherini made the comment after meeting with visiting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on the sidelines of the EU’s monthly foreign affairs council.
During his visit in Brussels, Abbas called on EU states to swiftly recognize the state of Palestine amid an international uproar sparked by the U.S. administration’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Mogherini called on the EU to expand talks of the Middle East Quartet which includes the United Nations, the EU, the United States and Russia. She said the EU will discuss the peace process between the Israelis and Palestinians with six foreign ministers from the League of Arab States next month.
