Lewis Hamilton set a new track record to take pole position for the Italian Grand Prix with the fastest lap in Formula One history on Saturday.
The Six-time World champion was sensational, setting a lap record of one minute, 18 seconds at an average speed of 164 miles per hour.
It was Hamilton’s career 94th pole position and a win in Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix would be his 90th career victory, one short of former Ferrari great, Michael Schumacher’s all-time record.
Despite a new technical directive coming into force from the start of qualifying preventing teams from changing their engine modes for the rest of the weekend, Mercedes was still in a league of its own and finished eight-tenths clear of the rest.
