Imo govt, Navy collaborate on maritime security

The Nigerian Navy says it has completed the hydrographic survey for the dredging of the Orashi River to the Atlantic Ocean.

The commander, Oguta Naval Base, Commodore, Stephen Ibrahim who disclosed this when Imo State delegation paid him a visit, said they are waiting for the state government approval to begin dredging.

It’s three months already since the state Government flagged off the dredging of Orashi river to the Atlantic ocean to stimulate economic opportunities and link the South East region to other West Africa countries.

A meeting between the Imo state government and the Nigeria Navy, Oguta Naval Base is to seek ways of collaboration in the areas of maritime security.

The Special Adviser to the Imo state Government on Marine Transportation and waterways security, Henry Ezediaro who led the delegation, stressed the need to secure the waterways, curb oil theft, and the dredging of the Oguta lake and Orashi river as envisioned by Governor Hope Uzodinma.

The Naval Commander of Oguta Naval Base, Commodore Stephen Ibrahim revealed that the hydrographic survey for the dredging of the Orashi River has been completed and work will commence to stimulate economic development in the area.

The visit offered the Delegation opportunity to tour on the Oguta lake and Urashi river, as they expressed optimism that at the completion of the dredging exercise it will change the fortunes of the people living along the coastal line and entire south east region.
