A research document has identified domesticating Nigeria’s National Youth Policy as necessary to bridge the disconnect between government and young people.
At the presentation of the research Policy Memo in Abuja, speakers explained that the domestication of the National policy will enhance the readiness of the three tires of government to further promote youth development.
Nigerian’s national youth policy is a central effort of government aimed at addressing youth development and inclusion in the affairs of government and governance.
Only a few states like Lagos and Rivers states have made efforts at domesticating the youth policy despite its importance to the development of the youths.
This group In 2022, commenced research into “Accelerating Youth Civic Participation and development in the FCT”.
The research project reveals some of the problems young people face and the opportunities the FCT and Nigeria stand to gain if government invests in young people.
The report shows that there is a gap in service provision that ought to cater for the youth population.
The report identified a wide disconnect between young people and elected officials.
The report recommends the domestication of the Nigeria national youth policy as a way of bridging the gap between the government and the youth in the country.
The project is a youth component of grassroots advocacy that focuses on community needs assessment for budget making, enhancing citizens’ opportunity to nominate projects that meet the needs of their community into the budget.
