Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has recently distributed 312 tractors to farmers across the 27 local government areas in Borno.

This symbolic gesture is aimed at boosting the agricultural sector in the state and improving the livelihoods of farmers.

The Governor has stated that each of the 312 wards in the state will receive one tractor at a discounted loan rate of 50%. However, he has emphasized the importance of forming agricultural cooperative societies in each ward, with a membership of not less than five and a maximum of ten persons, to ensure the effective utilization of the tractors.

This initiative is a testament to the Governor’s commitment to the development of the agricultural sector in Borno and his desire to empower farmers to increase their productivity and income.

It is hoped that this distribution of tractors will go a long way in transforming the agricultural landscape of the state and improving the lives of its citizens.

Governor Zulum stated that, the tractors were procured by his predecessor Kashim Shettima, while his administration procured over 300 harrowing and plowing equipment.

The Governor made it clear that all tractors allocated to the State cannot be sold or used outside of its borders. Any individual caught violating this directive will face the full force of the law.

Furthermore, Governor Zulum launched the sale of subsidized fertilizer to farmers in preparation for the upcoming 2023 cropping season. The bags of fertilizer will be distributed to deserving farmers, and the Governor has directed that they be sold at a discounted rate of 25% off the actual market price.

The State Government has made over 100 trucks of blended NPK fertilizers available to farmers at prices significantly lower than the prevailing market rates. This move is aimed at supporting farmers and boosting agricultural productivity in the State.

The Governor said his administration is committed to ensuring that farmers have access to the necessary resources to thrive and succeed.

The subsidized fertilizer program is just one of the many initiatives being implemented to support the agricultural sector in the State.
