The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened its 2026 recruitment portal for qualified Nigerians seeking employment into various entry-level positions across Grade Levels 07, 08, 09, 10 and 12.

The electoral body said the exercise is aimed at strengthening its workforce and improving its capacity to effectively carry out electoral responsibilities across the country.

The application portal opened on Monday, July 20, 2026, and will close on Monday, July 27, 2026.

Here are 10 things to know about the INEC 2026 recruitment exercise:

1. INEC recruitment portal is open for applications

INEC has commenced its 2026 recruitment exercise, inviting qualified Nigerians to apply for available vacancies across different cadres.

Interested candidates are expected to complete their applications online before the July 27 deadline.

The commission said the recruitment process is designed to fill vacancies in areas such as electoral administration, voter registration, election logistics and data management.

2. The recruitment covers Grade Levels 07, 08, 09, 10 and 12

The available positions cut across professional and administrative roles at different grade levels.

INEC is recruiting candidates into entry-level positions, including Executive Officer, Administrative Officer II and other professional roles.

3. Professional positions are available for qualified degree holders

For Grade Levels 09, 10 and 12, INEC is seeking professionals in fields including:

Accounting
Law
Clinical services
Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
Engineering
Quantity Surveying

Applicants are expected to possess relevant bachelor’s degrees or equivalent qualifications.

Some positions may also require additional professional certifications or postgraduate qualifications.

4. Some professional roles require experience and certifications

Candidates applying for professional positions must have at least two years of post-qualification experience.

INEC also listed recognised professional qualifications from bodies including:

Nigerian Bar Association (NBA)
Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria
Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors
Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN)
Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN)
Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPRCN)

Applicants must also possess NYSC discharge or exemption certificates where applicable.

5. Administrative Officer II position requires degree or HND

For the position of Administrative Officer II, also known as Registration Area Officer, applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree, Higher National Diploma (HND) or equivalent qualification.

The qualification must be obtained from a recognised institution in fields related to:

Social Sciences
Humanities
Sciences

Applicants must also have NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificates.

INEC said candidates should have skills in data management, record keeping and Microsoft Office applications.

6. Executive Officer position requires NCE or equivalent qualification

The Executive Officer role, also known as Registration Officer, is available for candidates with a National Certificate in Education (NCE) or equivalent qualification.

Applicants are expected to have:

Basic computer skills
Data-handling ability
Good communication skills
Organisational skills
7. Applicants must meet age and character requirements

INEC said applicants must not be above 35 years old at the time of application.

Candidates must also:

Be physically and mentally fit
Provide a valid certificate of state of origin
Have no criminal conviction
Demonstrate integrity and commitment to public service

The commission said successful candidates must be willing to work in any part of Nigeria.

8. Applicants must submit required documents online

Candidates are required to create an account on the INEC recruitment portal using their personal details, email address and National Identification Number (NIN).

Applicants must upload documents including:

Recent passport photograph
Birth certificate or declaration of age
O’Level result
Academic certificates
Local government identification certificate
NYSC certificate where applicable

9. The recruitment process is free

INEC warned applicants against fraudsters who may demand payment in exchange for employment opportunities.

The commission stressed that the recruitment exercise is completely free of charge.

It also warned that candidates who provide false information or submit forged documents will be disqualified and may face legal action.

10. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted

INEC advised applicants to carefully review their information before submitting their forms, as candidates will not be allowed to change their selected vacancy after submission.

The commission said only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for the next stage of the recruitment process.
