The Confederation of African Football Disciplinary Board imposed sanctions on the Senegalese national team and the Moroccan national team, including players and officials, citing conduct during the 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final match, which violated the CAF Disciplinary Code.

In a late Wednesday statement published on the official CAF website, the football authority said the sanctions serve as punishment for violations of its Disciplinary Code, including breaches of the principles of fair play, loyalty and integrity, during and after the AFCON final match.

CAF Disciplinary Board Decision against Senegal

On the alleged misconduct from the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF), the CAF Disciplinary Board decided to suspend Mr Pape Bouna Thiaw, the Head Coach of the Senegalese National Team, for five official CAF matches and an additional fine of $100,000, for his unsporting conduct in violation of the CAF Disciplinary Code principles of fair play and integrity and for bringing the AFCON final game into disrepute.

CAF suspends Senegalese National Team player, Mr Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye and Mr Ismaila Sarr for two official CAF matches, for their unsporting behaviour towards the referee.

According to the statement, CAF also fined the Senegalese national team a sum of $300,000 for the improper conduct of its supporters, which brought the game into disrepute in violation of the CAF Disciplinary Code principles of fair play and integrity.

The Senegalese national team also got an additional $300,000 for the unsporting conduct of their players and technical staff in violation of the CAF Disciplinary Code principles of fair play, loyalty and integrity, which brought the game into disrepute.

CAF handed another fine of $15,000 to the FSF for the misconduct of its National Team, citing the five times the players received cautions during the match.

CAF Disciplinary Board Decision against SenegalHosts Morocco

On the alleged misconduct from the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF), the CAF Disciplinary Board decided to fine the hosts Morocco $200,000 for the inappropriate behaviour of the stadium’s ball boys during the AFCON final match.

CAF also fined the FRMF an additional $100,000 for the improper conduct of their National Team players and technical staff, who invaded the VAR review area and obstructed the referee’s work, in violation of the principles of fair play and integrity, citing the provisions of articles 82 and 83 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.

CAF suspends the Moroccan National Team player, Mr Achraf Hakimi, for two official CAF matches, with one of these matches being suspended for one year from the date of this decision, for his unsporting behaviour.

CAF also suspends the Moroccan National Team player, Mr Ismaël Saibari, for three official CAF matches and a $100,000 fine, for his unsporting behaviour during the AFCON final match.

CAF also fined the Moroccan National Team $15,000 for the use of lasers by its supporters during the AFCON final match.

CAF Ruling On Morocco’s Protest Against Senegal

On the protest lodged by the Hosts Morocco regarding alleged violations by the Senegalese National Team of Articles 82 and 84 of the Regulations of the AFCON, the CAF Disciplinary Board rejects the protest relating to the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Final.
