The Federal Government has appealed to the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) to suspend its planned strike and return to the negotiation table.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, made the appeal after a meeting with the union,

He stressed that strike action is not the preferred path to resolving industrial disputes.

“The government is committed to finding a lasting resolution to the concerns raised,” Dingyadi said, assuring that discussions between both parties would resume on Friday at the Ministry of Health.

The appeal comes amid growing discontent among nurses and midwives over poor working conditions, inadequate remuneration, and welfare concerns.

The association had earlier threatened to embark on an industrial action if their demands were not addressed.

In a statement, Head of Press and Public Relations at the Labour Ministry, Patience Onuobia, expressed hope that sustained dialogue would avert disruption of essential healthcare services nationwide.

The Ministry urged the union to give room for constructive engagement, promising that government remains open and willing to address all legitimate concerns raised by healthcare workers.
