A section of Imo state International Cargo Airport has been razed by fire, causing passengers to flee for their safety.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, but sources said that the fire started at the arrival section where the airport authority is carrying out ongoing renovation works.
Sources told TVC News that the fire which started at about 2pm raged till about 45 minutes before the intervention of the Imo state fire service which helped in extinguishing the fire.
The source said, “It happened at the arrival department of the airport where the authority was carrying out renovation work.
“It would have caused bigger havoc but for the arrival of men of the fire service.
“It started around 2:10pm and raged for 50 minutes. It damaged equipment and infrastructure, but the rescue work assisted in savaging the situation.”
The airport is named in honour of the former Governor late Sam Mbakwe.
