The Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army has commenced its 2026 Capacity Building Workshop on Manual Wargaming aimed at strengthening the operational competence of tactical commanders in the Nigerian Army.
The workshop, which began on Tuesday at the TRADOC Headquarters Auditorium in Minna Military Cantonment, is part of the Army’s efforts to enhance decision-making and operational planning within a joint operational environment.
Nicknamed Exercise GAFILI GADOKI III, the training programme is themed: “Consolidating Tactical Commanders’ Proficiency on Manual Wargaming for Effective Decision-Making Process in the Nigerian Army Training and Operations within a Joint Environment.”
In his opening remarks, the Commander of TRADOC NA, Peter Malla, highlighted the importance of the workshop in strengthening training methodologies and improving operational effectiveness across the Army.
He said the initiative aligns with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Olufemi Oluyede Shaibu, which focuses on advancing the transformation of the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptable, combat-ready and resilient force capable of effectively discharging its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment.
Major General Malla expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for his continued support and leadership in driving the ongoing transformation of the Nigerian Army.
He noted that the strategic guidance provided by the Army leadership has significantly improved the quality and relevance of training activities across formations.
The TRADOC commander also commended the invited guests, formation commanders and resource persons for participating in the workshop, urging them to engage actively and contribute meaningfully to the discussions.
The workshop is expected to provide participants with practical knowledge in manual wargaming techniques designed to enhance operational planning, scenario analysis and tactical decision-making in complex military operations.
