The State Command of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, “Amotekun,” has arrested 149 individuals who were found in the state’s forest reserves and believed to be from neighboring states.
The arrests were made at three different locations in the state, and the suspects were found to be in possession of guns and other dangerous weapons.
Ondo state commander of the Amotekun Network, Adetunji Adeleye
has questioned why the suspects were hiding their weapons and has urged the community to consult relevant agencies before conducting business in the state’s forest reserves.
Mr Adeyeye disclosed that the suspects were apprehended with guns, bags of Indian hemp, cutlasses in areas where robbery and kidnapping are rife.
He stated that genuine hunters will be allowed to enter the reserves after proper profiling, but those without a valid reason or who are carrying weapons will be charged to court.
This latest arrest comes just a week after 31 suspected criminals were paraded at the headquarters of Amotekun in the state capital.
The government has made it clear that hunters must register and be properly vetted before entering the state’s forest reserves.
