Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife have demanded an immediate and unconditional release of their colleagues arrested and arraigned for alleged assault.

They also want the proscription on their union to be lifted.

TVC News correspondent in Osun State, Rafiu Hammed reports that five students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife were on Wednesday 22nd March 2018, arrested on campus for assaulting a female hostel worker during their struggle with hall wardens.

The hall wardens were said to be acting on the order of the institution’s management, that all students should vacate Moremi Hostel for renovation since the university was not in session, but the students according to findings resisted the move which led to the crises.

Olanrewaju debunked the insinuation that the students were arraigned for protesting saying the attitudes of the students was at variance with what OAU is known for.

Though, students’ Union has been proscribed by the university authorities, the students are gathered here to seek their colleagues’ release.

Counsel to the students, Alfred Adegoke wants all the charges preferred against the students dropped.

The students were said to have been granted bail by the magistrate in charge, but the bail conditions have not been met.
