The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns to April 21, 2026.

In a statement issued on Friday, the agency said the decision followed increased activity on its electronic tax platform, as taxpayers rushed to meet the earlier deadline of April 14.

The LIRS noted that the surge in usage of its eTax platform reflects growing compliance among residents.

“In view of this development, and to ensure that all taxpayers are provided with adequate opportunity to successfully complete their filings, LIRS hereby announces a further extension of the deadline, now set for April 21, 2026,” the statement read.

“This additional extension is granted in consideration of the overwhelming response and to enhance taxpayer convenience, while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of submissions.”

The agency emphasised that filing annual income tax returns remains a statutory obligation and urged taxpayers to take advantage of what it described as a “final extension.”

Executive Chairman of LIRS, Ayodele Subair, reiterated that all submissions must be made electronically through the eTax platform.

According to him, the platform remains “the only approved channel for submission.”

The extension marks the second adjustment to the filing deadline this year.
