Imo state govt begins verification exercise for pensioners

Imo State Government has begun the verification of Pensioners across the 27 Local Government Areas to clear the backlog of pensions owed by the state.

The governor’s spokesman, Steve Osuji said the capturing and verification of data will help the government put to end numerous repetitions of verification exercises.

Pension administration in Nigeria as it concerns Government pensioners was nothing to write home about especially in Imo State.

The system has been notorious for fraud by Government officials who engaged in diversion for personal use funds earmarked for pensioners.

Pensioners in Imo gathered in their thousands to embark on their biometric data capturing.

The Imo State Pensioners are now beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel as Governor Emeka Ihedioha led administration has assured that all backlog of arrears owned the pensioners will be paid as soon as possible.

The Imo State Chairman of Nigeria Union of Pensions and some of the Pensioners spoke on the process.

Chairman, Nigeria Union Of Pensions, Imo State, Jude Ugochukwu said though the process is nice and smooth but the issue of not accepting joint account from the pensioners is a major challenge

It is highly believed that as soon as the pensioners are through with this verification and data capturing all issues concerning backlog of payments will become a thing of the past
