The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has predicted flooding in nine local government areas in Benue.
NEMA’s director-general, Zubaida Umar, disclosed this in Makurdi during the Downscaling of Flood Early Warning Strategies for Early Actions in the State.
The fundamental goal of the engagement in Makurdi, the capital of Benue, is to downscale flood early warning systems for early actors in the state, which is very vulnerable to natural disasters.
The nine local governments listed by the Emergency Management Agency to be affected this season include Makurdi, Tarka, Gwer West, Kwande, Buruku,Guma,Agatu,Logo, and Kastina-Ala.
It urged critical stakeholders to support the initiative of downscaling flood early warning and risk mitigation messages to the grassroots.
Local council caretaker chairmen from the 23 councils also took part in the sensitisation programme.
