The Benue State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew in Ukum local government area of the State.
Alia announced the measure during a press conference in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, shortly after the State Security Council meeting on Wednesday.
Alia, who was represented by his deputy Sam Ode, said the curfew had become necessary “following the wanton destruction of government properties and threats to lives in the area”.
The curfew which begins today, Thursday will be from 3pm to 6pm until further notice.
Mr. Ode said the curfew was imposed because of the grave security situation in the region that has led to the wanton destruction of property leading to instability in the area.
He noted that the Governor has called for calm as security operatives have been deployed in their numbers to keep the peace in Ukum in particular.
