At least 450 persons have benefited from Free eye Surgical operation.
The process was conducted at the Niger Foundation Hospital Enugu, through a consortium.
These are mainly cataract patients drawn from different states in Southern Part of Nigeria, seeking medical attention.
Most of these patients have been living with cataract, an eye disease among the aged.
The World Health Organisation 2022 revealed that at least 2.2 billion people have a near or distance vision impairment.
And a billion or almost half of these cases, could have been prevented or has yet to be addressed.
Globally, the leading causes of vision impairment are traceable to age-related macular degeneration, cataract, diabetic, retinopathy, glaucoma
uncorrected refractive errors.
In Enugu, at this health mission, patients receive free eye tests, examinations, treatment, and cataract surgery.
The Chief Medical Director of the Hospital notes that several optical issues can be corrected, if presented early.
The eye care is organised annually, to assist in reducing health challenges and make patients less dependent on families.
Vision impairment cost a lot of money globally and with these kinds of free eye medical examination and surgery, patients have a huge chance to see now and in future.
