The endorsement of Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has been described as nothing to lose sleep over but an indication that candidates should be looking for the people whose endorsement matter more than that of any Other, Voters.
Guests and Respondents made this observation while reacting to the statement credited to a former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, describing the endorsement as a big mistake on the part of Obasanjo.
Adekunle Yussuf, Associate Editor with TheNation newspapers said the people who had visited the residence of Olusegun Obasanjo were looking for his endorsement one way or the Other.
He added that the people who had reacted to the endorsement before now missed the point totally since the man has a right to endorse whoever he feels like.
He however said he agrees with the decision of Sule Lamido on why Chief Olusegun Obasanjo should not have endorsed Peter Obi.
He disclosed that he agrees that having announced publicly that he will no longer be a part of partisan politics endorsing Peter Obi puts a lie to that statement of his.
He described the statement of Sule Lamido that if Chief Olusegun Obasanjo should endorse any candidate, it should have been that of the Peoples Democratic Party since the party made him what he is today as being on point.
He added that the future of Nigeria will be determined by Nigerians who are voters and not the endorsement by any body.
In his reaction, Paul Dada, differed from the position taken by Adekunle Yussuf describing the position of Sule Lamido as fundamentally flawed.
He added that Obasanjo’s endorsement of Peter Obi is nothing new as he did endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 a non PDP Person.
He listed the examples of people like Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal and his Edo State counterpart, Godwin Obaseki, who have moved between parties and are still in office.
He described reactions to the endorsement of Peter Obi by Olusegun Obasanjo as puerile and nonsensical wondering why he was attacked so much if those attacking him do not think he can pull votes.
Babajide Kolade-Otitoju however said he has no issues with the endorsement of Peter Obi by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo but said politicians will not fold their arms and watch him insult them without reply.
Going further, he described Obasanjo as acting as if he was a puritan and the only clean man in Nigeria, saying the former President should look in the mirror at himself and consider his actions between 2013 and now.
He wondered if the former President should not be seeing things the way they are, a case of him misleading Nigerians with the choices he has made since then.
He urged the former President to know that he cannot be the one to make the choice of President of Nigeria from Abeokuta.
He disclosed that the standpoint of Sule Lamido is right adding that Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is a man who thinks he is better than everybody which is not the case.
He described the former President as a man who likes making the worst choice all in the name of being a Statesman adding that his records of elections was a major disaster that still reverberates till date.
He said the former President has no electoral value and should be disregarded, describing Sule Lamido, as one who says it as he sees it.
He said the Former President is a heavy handed person who always overreaches himself.n
