As the harmattan season sets in, in Yobe state, tsangaya students popularly called Almajirais are finding it hard to cope with the severe cold and shortage of food in their Islamic Centres.

Governor Mai Mala Buni has decided to tackle this by approving the distribution of food and non food items to Tsangayan teachers and the Islamic knowledge seekers within Damaturu metropolis.

Almajirais are students who travel to other places in search of islamic knowledge.

But the Tsangayan system of education is still unable to provide basic amenities for these Islamic knowledge seekers.

The harmattan period is usually the worst of times for these Almajirais who find it pretty challenging to study due to the extreme cold and lack of food in their various study Centres.

The Yobe state Government has swung into action by providing them with food and non food items to enable them concentrate on their Islamic studies.

The government pledges that the same gesture will be replicated in Tsangayan study Centres across the seventeen local government areas of the state.

The issue of the welfare of Almajirai scattered across most parts of Nigeria is one that has left many observers and experts in a quandary while many are of the School of thoughts that they ae nothing but a bunch children who are being exploited by their so called Islamic Teachers.

Others belief that the concept is Islamic and a major part of the culture in the North and of Islamic Education.
