The Nigerian Navy is currently holding two suspects in connection with the kidnapping of some military officers and civilians along the Bonny River, as the military ramps up efforts to recover stolen firearms and rid the Letugbene community of criminals in Bayelsa State’s Ekeremor local government area.
The Navy says it intends to restore normalcy to the town by recovering all stolen weapons, including those confiscated from former kidnapped officers and used to wreak havoc across the Niger Delta region’s waterways.
Letugbene community, is perceived to be a haven for notorious criminals and kidnapping gangs. Most of the natives either flee or hide indoors for fear of the unknown.
Some of the building have been overtaken by the criminals to perpetrate their nefarious activities which has now been destroyed during an altercation with military officers in a recent operation to fish them out and recover stolen arms hidden in the community.
A foremost leader in Letugbene, Chief Alex Oboitu says he believes the military is on track in their bid to rid the town of criminal elements terrorizing and killing innocent natives.
