As the people of Ondo State prepare for the October 10 Governorship poll, a group wants different political parties to provide an enable environment that will accommodate the aspirations of women.
This is coming just as the All Progressives Congress members in Arogbo in Ese- Odo local government area of the state said they would remain APC despite the wind of defection that is blowing.
Forty-four years after the creation of Ondo State, no woman has ever been governor or deputy governor.
The highest position ever held by a woman in the sunshine state, is that of the speaker of the state house of assembly.
As the state prepares for another governorship election, only one woman has shown interest in the number one seat.
This necessitated the awareness walk by a group of women in Akure to sensitize the people on the need to support women politicians to pick tickets.
They moved round the state capital, passing their message across to the people as well as urging more women to be actively involved in politics.
Elsewhere, APC members in Arogbo in Ese- Odo local government area rally round to give support to the state government.
In spite of the defection of the state Deputy Governor, the APC members say they will remain in the party.
As the different political parties brace up for their primaries, it is hoped that more women will show interest in the Governorship race.
