Nigerian Army repels Boko Haram fighters in Damaturu

Image result for Nigerian Army repels Boko Haram fighters in DamaturuThe Nigerian Army said it has repelled Boko Haram insurgents who attacked Gonar Bukar settlement on the outskirt of Damaturu, the Yobe capital.

Spokesman of the army’s Operation Lafiya Dole, Captain Njoka Irabor said troops engaged the insurgents “with the timely arrival of air taskforce.

Although the number of casualties is unknown, residents say, casualties were recorded from the military as well as Boko Haram fighters.

Three explosions rocked the city last night followed by gunshots which sent residents running for safety.

Intelligence reports indicate the attackers were trying to get into Damaturu.

According to United Nations, Nigerian troops have been locked in confrontations with Boko Haram since 2009 in an insurgency that has claimed up to 30,000 lives and displaced over two million people in the northeast.

And suspected so called Boko haram insurgents have killed three persons and kidnapped two others after attacking humanitarian workers in Borno State.

The insurgents attacked the workers along a highway, while they were travelling from Monguno to Maiduguri. The abducted aid workers are women.
