Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Professor Charles Dokubo, has appealed to leaders of former Niger Delta agitators to give the programme a chance to deliver on its mandate.
At a meeting in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, Dokubo told the leaders of “Phase Two” of the programme not to lose sight of the cardinal objectives of maintaining security and enhancing human capital development.
Former agitator of the Niger Delta complied with the processes of disarmament for reintegration into the society in accordance with the plan of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, but there were periods of unrest and protests over unpaid or delayed release of monthly stipends to them.
The appointment of Professor Charles Dokubo seemed to have ushered in relative peace and stability among the former agitators.
It is believed that periodic meetings like this will shed light on grey areas and douse any tension about the welfare of former agitators in the Niger Delta.
