A powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake has struck Indonesia’s Tanimbar islands in the Banda Sea, with tremors being felt as far away as northern Australia.
According to the United States Geological Survey the earthquake hit at a depth of about 208 kilometers .
Residents in the Australian city of Darwin, approximately 720 kilometers away said they could feel shaking due to the seismic activity.
The quake was one of several to hit the Indonesian archipelago with at least nine temblors also rocking the Indonesian side of the island of Papua.
