The ambition of member representing Ojomu/Balogun state constituency, Saheed Popoola to become the next speaker of the Kwara state house of assembly is already getting a boost as relious leaders in Offa have endorsed his candidature.
They say experience and competence should be considered instead of geopolitical spread.
Correspondent Ibrahim Alege reports that Saheed Popoola was the only one re-elected among the current 24 members of the assembly.
Now that he has his eyes on the speakership position, the need for geographical spread of the state”s top positions may be a stumbling block.
The governor-elect is from Kwara Central, the deputy governor-elect is from Kwara south where Saheed Popoola hails from while Kwara north covets the speakership position.
At this press conference, the Muslim and Christian Cleric Council of Offa says experience should be considered in electing the new speaker.
In the meantime, the coalition of professional women association has cried over alleged marginalization of women.
The group claimed that the ticket of the only female house of assembly prospect in the state was given to another male, leaving all those elected
to be males.
