TVC N. Yesterday was World Environment Day, and the Benin City, Edo State-based Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF) held a Forest Town Hall Meeting in commemoration of World Environment Day in Abuja. During the meeting, the people clamored against the planned super highway that will connect the Calabar in Cross River with Benue State, as according to them, surveys indicate the high-tech road that would be fitted with CCTV and internet may displace 50,000 people in communities like Ukpong and Ekuri.
The meeting was attended by about 150 people, including representatives from forest communities, civil society organisations (CSOs), government and the media. At the meeting, it was resolved that the organisation and its partners would continue to demand for justice for the environment and communities.
