Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has called on political leaders to use their positions to effect changes that would benefit the citizenry.
He said this when he met with a delegation of lawmakers from the House of Representatives to discuss the economy and possible ways of navigating Nigeria out of recession.
State House Correspondent Mariah Olasehinde reports that in a bid to end the Current Economic Situation in the country, the House of Representatives has set up a Tactical Committee on Economic Recession.
The mandate of the Committee is to interact with all relevant bodies towards quickly exiting recession.
The members of the Committee have paid Vice President Yemi Osinbajo this call to dialogue with him on the state of the Economy.
Chairman of the Committee Representative Bode Ayorinde , calls for a review of the foreign exchange policy due to it’s impact on manufacturing.
He pledges the Tactical Committee’s readiness to interface with the Economic Management Team.
He commends the economy managers team for their efforts so far to revamp the economy especially their recently released Economic Recovery and Growth Plan.
The Senior Special Adviser to the President on House of Representatives matters Sulaiman Kawu believes this initiative is indicative of the harmonious relationship between the House of Representatives and the Executive.
The Vice President for hi part focuses on issues raised by the Lawmakers surrounding revenue allocation, noting that emphasis of states must shift from ‘sharing’ to generating more revenue internally.
He assures that the Federal Government is actively exploring options on how best to liquidate the debts owed contractors across the country, including the option of using bonds.
