President Muhammadu Buhari is delighted over the appointment of Nigeria’s Minister for the Environment, Amina Mohammed as the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations.
The president congratulated the in-coming Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres during a phone call, and said Nigeria has been honoured by Amina Mohammed’s appointment.
President Buhari thanked Mohammed for her untiring contribution to transform Nigeria and said he looks forward to a sustained collaboration between the UN and Nigeria.
And in a letter of gratitude, Mohammed says the next phase of her service to Nigeria at the global level will build on the lessons drawn from engaging with leaders, colleagues and stakeholders across the country.
She is expected to transition to her new role in March.
