The Adamawa Emirate Council has announced the dismissal of former governor Murtala Nyako as member of the emirate council and the withdrawal of his traditional tittle as “Sarkin Yamma” over alleged corruption levelled against him by EFCC.
The Emirate Council in a statement signed by its secretary Alh Umaru Hamman Joda said the measure was taken in view of the recent arraignment of the former governor and his son on alleged corruption charges by EFCC.
The statement added that the senior son of Nyako, Sen. Abdul-Aziz Nyako who is now the senator representing Adamawa Central Senatorial District is also stripped of his traditional tittle as “Sarkin Matasa”.
According to the statement” Admiral Murtala Nyako and his son Abdul Azees Nyako being title holders and also being member of the Adamawa Emirate Council have been indicted by the EFCC and arranged before a court of law for corruption and looting, the Adamawa Council has decided to withdraw the titles of Sarkin Yamman Adamawa and Sarkin Matasa Adamawa from Admiral Murtala Nyako and his son Abdul Azees Murtala Nyako.
Nyako served as governor of Adamawa from 2007 to 2014 when he was impeached by the state House of Assembly.
