The House of Representatives resumed from its four-week recess to a gale of defections as thirteen members announced a switch in their political parties.

The Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen read the notices of defection on the floor of the House, signaling a fresh realignment within the green chamber.

Among the defecting lawmakers are Gaza Jonathan of Nasarawa State, who moved from the Social Democratic Party to the Labour Party; Alex Egbona of Cross River State, left the All Progressives Congress for the Peoples Democratic Party; Esosa Iyawe of Edo State, defected from the APC to the National Democratic Congress, Sani Lawal of Katsina State, exited the APC for an undisclosed party; and Shehu Dalhatu, also from Katsina State, joined the PDP from the APC.

From Oyo State, Adebayo Adepoju, Adedeji Olajide, Ojo Akinola, Oyedeji Oyeshina, Oyekunle Folajimi, and Abass Adigun all dumped the PDP for the Allied Peoples Movement, APM.

Also among the defectors are Etanabene Benedict of Delta State, who moved from the Labour Party to the PDP, and Auwalu Gwalabe of Bauchi State, who left the PDP for the APM.

The lawmakers attributed their decisions to persistent internal crises, unresolved leadership disputes, and factional divisions within their former parties, arguing that the challenges had hindered their ability to effectively represent their constituents.
