A truck spotted early Wednesday morning dragging several heavy, brick-and-metal powerline poles across the Third Mainland Bridge, causing sparks has raised serious safety concerns.

The metal poles, pulled directly along the asphalt without proper lifting or containment, generated intense friction against the road surface.

TVC News reports that the resulting sparks posed a potential fire risk and raised alarm over possible damage to the bridge’s structure.

This incident comes despite existing safety protocols governing the movement of heavy-duty vehicles on the bridge, including restricted operating hours, maximum weight limits, and the requirement for official escorts.

In a related development, another truck was observed approaching the scene via the Independent Bridge, this time transporting large, uncovered rocks. The absence of safety coverings heightened fears that an abrupt stop or road bump could cause the rocks to tumble onto the highway, with potentially fatal consequences.

The scene has sparked renewed calls for stricter enforcement of traffic and safety regulations on Lagos’s major infrastructure. Authorities are being urged to act decisively to prevent such risky practices and ensure that safety guidelines are adhered to by all transport operators.
