President Bola Tinubu has praised the Super Eagles for their emphatic 4–1 win over Gabon in the semi-final of the African playoffs for the 2026 World Cup, describing the triumph as a testament to the “Nigerian spirit of resilience against all odds.”
Nigeria sealed the victory on Thursday at the Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat.
Victor Osimhen led the charge with two goals, while Chidera Ejuke and Akor Adams each found the net as the Eagles overpowered Gabon in extra time.
In a post on X, President Tinubu urged the team to stay focused, encouraging them not to “stop until you secure qualification.”

The Eagles will now battle either Congo DR or Cameroon in Sunday’s final for the continent’s sole ticket to the intercontinental playoff.
Their impressive performance came despite last-minute setbacks. The team had disrupted their preparations after staging a protest over unpaid allowances, refusing to train on Tuesday.
They returned to camp only after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) resolved the outstanding payments the following day.
