The Vice Presidential candidate of the APC senator Kashim Shettima has assured that the  Tinubu/Shetima presidency  will place  premium on tacking all forms of insecurity in the Northwest if elected.

He acknowledged the success achieved in  the counter insurgency fight across states in the Northeast and promised that same will be done in the Northwest.

Senator Shettima gave this assurance when he paid a courtesy visit to the the Emir of Zazzau His Royal Highness, Nuhu Ahmed Bamali in Zaria on Tuesday.

Mr Shettima added that they will also ensure jobs are created for the growing youth population and make sure the AKK Pipeline is completed.

The APC vice presidential candidate and his entourage were warmly received by the Emir who charged them to keep to their promises if they eventually emerge winners.

He called on politicians and those in positions of authority to ensure the 2023 general elections are free and fair credible.

The Emir appreciated the efforts of the Federal government in addressing security concerns but called for improved measures across Northwestern states.

He also commended the Federal government for completing the Kaduna-Zaria and charged them to do same along the  Kaduna-Abuja highway.

Zaria Local government area  of Kaduna state which  now has an estimated population of over a million people has been a strong hold of the APC.

They  had in the 2019 Presidential elections polled over 111,000 votes to defeat their closest rival the PDP who managed 23,882 votes.

There are strong signals that the APC will maintain their lead in Zaria and indeed Kaduna in the 2023 presidential elections as the strong hold  areas of the PDP are being threatened by the emergence of the Labour Party Presidential candidate.

POLITICAL ACTIVISTS CONDEMN GROWING VIOLENCE DURING CAMPAIGNS

A coalition of political activists has called for a peaceful election as Nigerians go to the polls next month.

The Coalition for Peace and Good Governance, COPGO, frowns at the increasing rate of violence between and among political parties and candidates for the elections.

2023 is no doubt significant in Nigeria’s political history as new set of leaders that will pilot its affairs in another four years will be elected.

But the build up to the election is soaking up so much tension, despite the signing of a peace accord by politicians.

Political campaigns are turning bloody and the Nigeria Police Force has its hands full maintaining peace and order.

This group of Nigerians is disturbed by the worsening trend political campaigns are taking, leading to gruesome killings and maiming of perceived political opponents.

The coalition urges politicians to be mindful of the need for a peaceful atmosphere before, during and after the elections.

COPGO warns politicians and their supporters against truncating the forthcoming general election
