Arsenal defender William Saliba will not undergo surgery to treat his persistent back problem despite fears over the injury, according to a report by French newspaper L’Equipe.
TVC News had earlier reported that the France international’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign ended prematurely after he was forced off during Les Bleus’ 2-0 semi-final defeat to eventual champions Spain.
According to Yahoo Sports, Saliba had been playing through severe back pain and admitted during the match that he could no longer cope with the discomfort. Although surgery had initially been considered, L’Equipe reported last week that it was no longer the preferred option.

The latest report from the French outlet indicates that, following discussions with Arsenal officials, the 25-year-old has decided against undergoing an operation.

L’Equipe reported that no timeline has been set for the defender’s return, with his recovery expected to depend on how his condition progresses. However, the French international is likely to be unavailable for several months, dealing a significant blow to Arsenal ahead of the new season.
