The Zamfara State Police Command has rescued 11 kidnapped victims following a deadly bandit attack on the Gummi–Sokoto highway that claimed one life and left another person seriously injured.
The attack occurred at about 10:30 a.m. on Monday when heavily armed bandits ambushed a trailer conveying vegetables and passengers along the busy road. Police said the gunmen opened fire on the vehicle, causing the driver to lose control and veer off the road.
A passenger, identified as Dan Fati Umar of Gidan Ganja in Bukuyum Local Government Area, was killed during the attack, while another victim sustained serious injuries and is receiving medical treatment.

The assailants abducted an unspecified number of passengers before fleeing into the bush.
The police, working with other security agencies, launched a swift rescue operation that led to the safe recovery of 11 of the abducted victims, who have since been reunited with their families.
The trailer involved in the attack remains under police protection as security operatives continue efforts to rescue the remaining victims and track down the attackers.
Commissioner of Police Ahmad Muhammad Bello extended condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured victim a speedy recovery.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations.
