Police in Enugu State have uncovered and dismantled a local firearms fabrication workshop in Amofia-Agu Affa, Udi Local Government Area, following the arrest of a suspected cultist.

The breakthrough, announced in a statement on Monday by Police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe, came after the arrest and confession of Ekene Okafor, an alleged member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, who was earlier apprehended for conspiracy, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms.

Ndukwe said the operation, conducted by the Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad at about 4:00 p.m. on 30 June, followed credible intelligence. The suspect led officers to the workshop, where his locally-made cut-to-size gun was undergoing repairs. The owner of the workshop reportedly fled upon sighting the operatives.

Items recovered from the scene included a cut-to-size single-barrel gun, two English-made double-barrel guns, eight locally-made single-barrel guns, two live and eight expended cartridges, three generator sets, firearms repair tools, and other exhibits.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the workshop’s fleeing owner.

Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus, commended the operatives for their efforts and reassured the public of the Command’s resolve to tackle the proliferation of illegal firearms and related criminal activities.

He urged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and to continue providing useful information to support police efforts.
