The Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly and member representing Atiba State Constituency, Gbenga Oyekola, has publicly distanced himself from an alleged plot to create division between the legislature and the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.
Mr. Oyekola made the clarification in a public announcement following a meeting of lawmakers held at the Governor’s House, where concerns were raised about what he described as the activities of “agents of disunity” working to pitch the Assembly against the state government.
According to him, discussions at the meeting brought to light claims made by the Speaker of the House, Adebo Ogundoyin, regarding alleged political overtures from prominent figures.
He said the Speaker disclosed that he had earlier approached the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, in connection with his governorship ambition, after which he was reportedly invited by the monarch. During the meeting, the Speaker was allegedly advised to pursue a seat in the House of Representatives under the All Progressives Congress, with assurances of support and funding for the election.

Hon. Oyekola further stated that the Speaker claimed he rejected the offer.
He added that the Speaker also revealed being invited by a former First Lady of Oyo State, Florence Ajimobi, on a similar matter, during which he was allegedly offered money. The Speaker, according to Oyekola, said he declined and did not accept any financial inducement.
The Chief Whip, however, stressed that he was not part of any of these engagements, stating categorically that he was neither invited nor consulted at any stage.
“I completely disassociate myself from any arrangement or activity that has the potential to disrupt the peace of Oyo State,” he said, reaffirming his loyalty to Governor Makinde.
Oyekola pledged his continued support for the governor, his administration, and the ruling party in the state, emphasizing his commitment to unity, stability, and the overall development of Oyo State.
