House of Representatives aspirant for Ovia Federal Constituency, Rev. Johnny Aikpitanyi, on Tuesday, visited Igo Market to engage with the market women following the recent closure of the market by military authorities due to poor sanitary conditions.

The visit, according to his media Aide, was part of his ongoing grassroots engagement and commitment to addressing the concerns of communities within the constituency.

During the visit, Rev. Aikpitanyi appealed to the military officers responsible for the closure to reconsider their decision and allow the market to reopen, especially after the women agreed to work together to improve the hygiene conditions. He emphasised that while health and safety must not be compromised, alternative and supportive measures should be put in place to ensure the economic survival of local traders, many of whom depend on the market for daily income.

As a demonstration of his support, Rev. Aikpitanyi donated the sum of ₦100,000 to the market women to fast-track the cleaning and rehabilitation of the market environment. He urged the women to use the funds judiciously and to put proper hygiene structures in place going forward, to avoid future closure of the market.

The gesture was met with great excitement and appreciation from the market women, who described the aspirant’s intervention as timely and impactful. They praised his compassion, accessibility, and commitment to people-oriented leadership, pledging their unflinching support for his aspiration to represent Ovia in the House of Representatives.

Rev. Johnny Aikpitanyi reaffirmed his belief in inclusive leadership, stressing that markets are vital to community life and local economy. He assured the people that if elected, he would work tirelessly to bring sustainable development, economic empowerment, and effective representation to the people of Ovia Federal Constituency.
