Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA in Ondo State have intercepted a car, loaded with compressed Indian hemp in Akure, the State capital.
A suspect was arrested with the illicit drug, weighing more than 228 kilogrammes
This seizure was made possible after weeks of surveillance by men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA n Ondo state.
The NDLEA officials intercepted the Cannabis Sativa, otherwise known as Indian hemp, weighing more than 200 kilogrammes in Akure
The illicit drugs, which were neatly compressed in 300 pieces, were concealed in a car.
A suspect was arrested with the exhibit.
The State Commander of NDLEA, Kayode, who paraded the suspect and the drugs before newsmen in Akure, said the command will continue to arrest those involved in the illicit trade.
“We have been on his trail for a very long time and at a time, we also suspected that he was very suspicious and almost about to get wind he was being trailed, so we relaxed the manhunt.
“We employed characters so that our identity will be concealed. But at the end of the day, on March 29, he was nabbed at a place called Quarter guard in Akure, Ondo State.
“And a compressed cannabis, carefully stacked in the booth of the car, about 309 pieces of compressed cannabis, of about 228kg ,” he said.
The suspect confessed to committing the crime, blaming the current situation of things in the country for his involvement.
The NDLEA commander added that the suspect will be charged to court to serve as a deterrent to others.
