The National Youth Alliance (NYA) has inaugurated 137 local government coordinators across the South-West at an event held in Ibadan, Oyo State, in a move aimed at strengthening youth participation in governance and leadership.
The gathering brought together young Nigerians advocating increased involvement in policy-making and national development.
Speaking at the event, the National Youth Alliance President, Ambassador Aliyu Bin Abbas, underscored the importance of youth engagement in shaping the country’s future.
Ambassador Abbas expressed concern that prolonged leadership by older generations had slowed national progress, urging a transition that would allow younger Nigerians to assume greater leadership responsibilities.
Chairman of the occasion, Chief Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, also highlighted the need to harness youthful energy to drive development, citing examples of countries that have advanced by empowering their young populations.
Other speakers, including Ambassador Prof. Yemi Farohunbi, noted that many past leaders assumed power at a young age but failed to relinquish it as they grew older, calling on current leaders to create opportunities for emerging generations.
Adebola Doherty, described ineffective leadership as a major challenge to national growth and commended organisations such as the NYA for promoting youth inclusion in governance.
The inauguration was presented as a renewed call for Nigerian youths to take a more active role in leadership and public affairs.
