The Kano State police and members of the banned Shi’ite Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) clashed in the city on Monday with many feared dead.
Reports say the violence erupted around Tamburawa, on the outskirts of Kano city, when police tried to stop a Shi’ite protest.

The police have since deployed heavily armed mobile police officers to the area while the major Kano- Zaria road has been cordoned off.
