Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, alongside traditional rulers, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, are set to attend the 40th convocation ceremony of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, on Friday, December 19, 2025.
At the event, Oba Ogunwusi will be specially honoured, joining two other distinguished Nigerians recognised for their contributions to the nation.
Legal expert and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Aare Muyiwa Akinboro, is scheduled to deliver the convocation lecture on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
His address, titled “Legal Frameworks and Strategies for Addressing Terrorism, Banditry and Insurgency in Nigeria: A Multidimensional Approach,” is expected to provide insights into tackling security challenges in the country.
During a press briefing announcing the convocation, The Polytechnic’s Rector, Dr. Taiwo Lasisi, represented by Deputy Rector Mrs. Olaide Salawu, highlighted the institution’s track record of uninterrupted graduation ceremonies, noting there is currently no backlog in holding convocation events.

She emphasised that the institution has successfully conducted 39 previous ceremonies, producing thousands of National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates, as well as Higher School Certificate holders who have progressed to universities nationwide.
Dr. Lasisi credited the institution’s strong performance in accreditation to Governor Makinde’s continuous financial support for programme development and accreditation efforts, which has enabled the polytechnic to secure full accreditation for all its courses.
“In April this year, the institution presented a total of 42 courses for accreditation to the NBTE, and we successfully scaled through all,” she stated.
She also announced that the polytechnic has received approval to introduce new programmes, including ND Food Science and Technology, ND Transport Planning and Management, ND Crime Management, and HND Science Laboratory Technology, among others, further expanding academic opportunities for students.
