Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved the appointment of a seven-person committee to oversee humanitarian support for the survivors and members of the Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area, following the recent massacre by an extremist group.
In a statement on Friday signed by Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, a former lawmaker from Kaiama Local Government Area, Hon. Ahmed Kiwozi, has been announced to chair the committee.
TVC News previously reported that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered the immediate provision of relief materials for the survivors of the attack in Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State, following the massacre that left over 160 residents dead.
President Tinubu gave the directives in Abuja on Thursday, following a briefing from Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq regarding the details of the attack.
Writing on his official X handle following his meeting with the Kwara Governor, President Tinubu condemned the incident, describing it as a ‘cowardly and beastly attack.’
Other members of the humanitarian comittee includes, the Vice Chairman of the Local Government Council Aisha Abubakar Sadiq, Alhaji Abubakar Mora, Woro Village Head Alhaji Umar Bio Saliu, a representative each of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP), and a representative of the Office of the Secretary to the State Government who should be a female.
According to the statement, the committee has four weeks to complete its assignment and is expected to interface with community leaders to determine rebuilding requirements, identify the immediate needs of survivors, and address other outstanding issues.
