The red and white symbols of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have officially disappeared from the pillars of the Kano State Government House as Governor Abba Yusuf is set to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) today.
This morning, TVC News confirmed that APC flags have been hoisted at the main gates and within the premises, signalling the dawn of a new political era.
The state house is currently in “high-readiness mode” for the formal reception of Governor Yusuf, who is expected to announce his official move to the ruling party this afternoon.
The announcement will follow the flag off of the e-registration exercise of APC members in Kano state.
Before he decided to depart the NNPP, Governor Yusuf had a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the state house in Abuja.
The closed-door meeting comes amid speculation over a possible defection by Governor Yusuf, who was elected on the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), to the APC.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the Governor’s planned defection was stalled, allegedly due to a deadlock over his demand for an automatic second-term ticket.
In a later development, Yusuf announced his planned defection to the APC on Sunday, following his resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) last Friday.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Director General, Media and Publicity, to the Governor, Sanusi Bature.
The statement recalled that Governor Yusuf first joined the APC in 2014 when he won the party’s primary election for the Kano Central Senatorial seat, a position he later conceded to Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.
