Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani has launched a verbal attack on former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, accusing him of leaving behind a legacy of debt, division, and lawlessness.

Speaking on TVC News’ political programme “Fireworks,” Sani dismissed El-Rufai’s purported political influence in Kaduna State.

“He may have been governor for eight years, but his performance record is poor,” Sani said.

He cited the poor electoral outcomes of El-Rufai’s party, APC, in the 2023 elections, where it lost all three senatorial seats, most House of Assembly seats, and narrowly retained the governorship.

“This tells you the people rejected him,” Sani said. He further accused El-Rufai of running an administration characterized by mass sackings, property demolitions, and flagrant disobedience of court orders.

“Throughout his tenure, Kaduna State never obeyed court rulings. Civil servants, teachers, and property owners obtained court orders which were ignored,” Sani alleged.

He also cited a recent report by the Kaduna State House of Assembly, which indicted El-Rufai’s administration for allegedly looting over N420 billion.

“The House’s probe report detailed massive financial mismanagement between 2015 and 2023,” he said.

On security, Sani credited the current governor for restoring peace in Kaduna State by engaging in inclusive dialogue with diverse ethnic and religious groups.

“The current administration ended years of exclusion and marginalization. They also held successful dialogues with bandit groups in areas like Birnin Gwari, which drastically reduced insecurity,” Sani stated.

He concluded by warning that Kaduna voters will not easily forgive politicians like El-Rufai, adding, “Kaduna people have moved on from his era of oppression.”
